Modern industry is constantly moving towards process automation, and one of the key elements ensuring the reliability of machines and devices is their proper lubrication. Traditional, manual methods of applying grease can be ineffective and unreliable - today, more and more companies are choosing central lubrication systems, including the renowned SKF solutions available in the Albeco offer.

SKF central lubrication systems – automation that pays off.

Albeco comprehensively supports its customers in the field of SKF central lubrication systems – from selecting the right solution, through installation, to service. Why is it worth investing in such a system and how do lubrication systems work? Check it out!

What are central lubrication systems?

Central lubrication systems (also known as automatic lubrication systems) are systems that enable precise delivery of lubricant (grease or oil) to selected points in the right amount and time interval.

What are the types of SKF central lubrication systems?

SKF offers a wide range of central lubrication systems adapted to various industrial applications - from small machines to complex production lines and industrial installations. Below are the main types of systems.

Single-line systems.

Single-line systems are one of the simplest types of automatic lubrication systems, ideal for use in small and medium-sized machines. Regardless of the application, the operating principle of the single-line system remains the same: the pump automatically supplies lubricant via a single supply line to the metering device. Each metering device serves only one lubrication point and can be adjusted to supply the exact amount of grease or oil required.
The systems can serve a single machine, different zones on a single machine or even several separate machines.

Advantages:

  • Simple design
  • Low implementation cost
  • Easy maintenance

Dual-Line Systems

SKF and Lincoln dual-line lubrication systems are suitable for large installations with widely distributed lubrication points requiring varying amounts of lubricant. They use two main lines that are alternately supplied with lubricant by a high-pressure pump via a changeover valve at 400 bar (5,800 psi). Branch lines along the main lines connect to dual-line metering devices that can supply large quantities of lubricant to the lubrication points. End pressure switches are used to regulate and monitor the operation of large dual-line systems.

Advantages:

  • Reliable operation in demanding environments
  • Ability to lubricate a large number of points
  • Resistance to temperature and pressure fluctuations

Progressive systems

A progressive lubrication system consists of a pump connected to at least one main progressive distributor (e.g. distributor 619-26473-1-SKF). If it is necessary to increase the number of lubrication points served, lower-order distributors can be connected to the outlets of the main distributor. In these systems, the lubricant is dosed sequentially - point by point. They can operate in timed or cyclical mode.

Advantages:

  • Precise dosing
  • Ability to supply multiple points from one pump
  • Compactness of the system

Oil-air systems

In an oil-air lubrication system, a certain amount of oil, measured volumetrically by a pump or distributor, is broken down by the continuous air flow in the pipe and guided along the pipe wall in the direction of the compressed air flow. The appropriate amount of oil is pulsed into the air flow at the mixing point (mixing valve). As a result, an almost continuous flow of oil is created at the outlet nozzle, which leaves the nozzle in the form of fine droplets and is supplied contactlessly to the rolling bearing. This means that the bearing housing is under a slight overpressure, which prevents contamination from entering the bearings. The air leaves the bearing almost completely free of oil. These systems do not produce oil mist, making them environmentally friendly.

Application: CNC machines, precision machines, electronics industry.

Advantages:

  • Minimum oil consumption
  • Efficient cooling
  • Very clean lubrication

Advantages of using SKF central lubrication systems.

Using the SKF central lubrication system offers a number of benefits that have a direct impact on production efficiency and maintenance costs:

1. Automation and time savings.
The systems operate automatically - there is no need for manual lubrication, which is time-consuming and carries the risk of, for example, omitting some points or applying the wrong amount of grease.
2. Lower grease consumption.
Thanks to precise dosing, the amount of lubricant used is optimized - which translates into lower operating costs.
3. Increased machine service life.
Constant, regular and correct lubrication extends the life of bearings and other moving parts, which reduces the risk of failure.
4. Work safety.
No need to enter hard-to-reach places to lubricate points eliminates the risk of accidents during maintenance work.
5. Possibility of remote monitoring.
Modern SKF systems can be integrated with monitoring and diagnostic systems, which allows ongoing monitoring of lubrication status.
